I've often stated my belief that
socialism and fascism are just two sides of the same coin. In the 1920s
and '30s, the German Nazi and Communist parties often joined forces when
protesting against the democratic Weimar Republic.
Communists and Nazis frequently found common cause. Witness the infamous Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of 1939 where Hitler and Stalin agreed to partition Europe.
The American Nazi Party and Communist Party USA announced their support for the Occupy Wall Street movement.
It's happening again.

Gun Control Doesn't Work
The anti-self defense crowd is following Rahm Emanuel’s advice about not letting a crisis go to waste. They are using the blood of innocent children murdered in Connecticut as war paint to push their agenda.
Their message is that guns are bad and should be banned. They believe that disarming the public makes them safe.
Constitutional issues aside, this argument is demonstrably false and thoroughly immoral. Not a single life has been saved by gun-free zones. The Newton school was one such place. Its sole effect was to guarantee that no teacher or administrator could defend themselves or the children in their care. It is worth noting that mass murders have been prevented by citizens with firearms.
Much to the dismay of gun banners, the courts and various legislative bodies have eased many firearm restrictions. Dire predictions of out-of-control violence in localities that eased restrictions on open and concealed carry regulations proved unfounded. Not only did violence not increase, it actually dropped where citizens are allowed to protect themselves.
Compare this to the violent crime rates of communities, such as New York City and Chicago, which have draconian gun-control laws.
Experience and academic studies alike affirm what common sense already makes obvious — gun control is counter-productive.
This won’t stop the gun-control crowd from redoubling their efforts to make us all defenseless. These zealots can’t see the blood on their hands.

Contrast in Leadership and Character
President Obama recently took a "victory lap" on the one-year anniversary of the military operation that killed Osama bin Laden. The president's supporters hailed it as an example of courageous leadership.
It was portrayed as an especially courageous decision because there was no guarantee the operation would succeed; remember the failed Iran hostage rescue mission of the Carter Administration.
So, just in case it failed, the Obama Administration took certain steps. According to former Attorney General Michael Mukasey in an article published in the Wall Street Journal, a memo was prepared blaming a general for the mission's failure.
That was a highly lawyered memo (designed to protect the president politically)... I think there's going to be more that's going to be tumbling out about that escapade but so far that memo is enough.Of course, when the mission succeeded, Obama took full credit.
Contrast this with the actions of Dwight Eisenhower who faced a similar situation in 1944 as supreme commander of Allied forces. It was called D-Day, the Normandy Invasion to liberate Europe from Nazi tyranny.
Eisenhower also knew there was a very real possibility that the invasion would fail, costing the lives of thousands of American, British and Canadian soldiers and setting the Allied cause back months and even years. So, Eisenhower also prepared a memo in case the invasion failed.
My decision to attack at this time and place was based upon the best information available. The troops, the air and the Navy did all that bravery and devotion to duty could do. If any blame attaches to the attempt it is mine alone.When the invasion succeeded, Eisenhower also made a statement concerning who was responsible.
One week ago this morning there was established through your coordinated efforts our first foothold in northwestern Europe. High as was my preinvasion confidence in your courage, skill and effectiveness ... your accomplishments ... have exceeded my brightest hopes. ... I truly congratulate you upon a brilliantly successful beginning. ... Liberty loving people everywhere would today like to join me in saying to you, 'I am proud of you.'And herein is the difference in leadership and character between a true hero and someone who merely pretends.

Journalistic Malpractice
The thing that has struck me most about the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman shooting is the media’s incredible incompetence covering this story. Among the inaccuracies: physical descriptions of the two. The media published a photo of Martin in middle school rather than a recent photo. Initial reports were that Zimmerman outweighed Martin by 100 pounds. Actually, the difference was closer to 20 pounds and Martin was taller than Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was repeatedly described as white when he’s actually Hispanic. Some media outlets chose to use the phrase “white Hispanic” for the first time in their editorial history.
It was reported on CNN that Zimmerman was heard describing Martin as a “f***ing coon.” But later enhancement of the audio showed that Zimmerman was actually commenting on the unseasonably cold Florida weather, saying “f***ing cold.” CNN has since retracted their allegation of a racial slur.
Zimmerman’s claim that he was assaulted and injured by Martin, a claim supported by an eyewitness, was dismissed by media as false following the release of video of Zimmerman being taken to police HQ. However, the enhanced versions of the video clearly show lacerations on the back of Zimmerman’s head.
Most recently, the left-wing blogosphere and other media are reporting that armed neo-Nazis are patrolling the town of Sanford, Fla., in case of racial violence against whites. The Sanford police department flatly denies that this is the case.
Martin’s background has been largely ignored. For example, the non-resident was in Sanford because he was under a 10-day suspension from his high school. What does a student have to do to earn a 10-day suspension? He was also known to police for drug offenses and possession of stolen property.
All this can be explained, if not excused, as nothing more sinister than incompetence and badly trained journalists operating under deadline pressure who failed to double source.
Then there is the case of NBC airing an edited version of Zimmerman’s phone call to police concerning Martin. According the version aired on the “Today Show,” here’s what Zimmerman told the police dispatcher:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.
Pretty cut and dried; Zimmerman was racially profiling Martin.
The problem is that that’s not what Zimmerman actually said, as the unedited tape shows:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.
After the discrepancy was revealed on Breitbart.com and Newsbusters.org, NBC launched an internal investigation. NBC News President Steve Capus told the British wire service Reuters that the selective editing was, "a mistake and not a deliberate act to misrepresent the phone call," on the part of a “seasoned” producer. NBC apologized and fired the “seasoned” producer responsible.
Capus claimed that the editing was simply made to fit time constraints, not change the context.
Hogwash!
I spent too many years in editing bays to believe that. It was not an accident; it was not sloppy editing. The editor had to have known what he was doing and recognized that he was changing the entire tone of the audio. It was done to fit the narrative that George Zimmerman was a racist profiling African-American kids to gun down.
I see no other rational explanation.
The facts of the case are still largely unknown. A grand jury is investigating and federal agencies are looking into the case. It may well turn out that Zimmerman is a rabid racist as guilty as Cain of killing Able. It may also turn out that Martin was a thug who assaulted Zimmerman. We just don’t know at this point.

Martin Luther King: The Dream Betrayed
I’m old enough that I remember Martin Luther King. I read about him in
the newspapers. I saw him on television. I heard his “Dream” speech. I
wept when he was murdered.
I have no patience for those who claim that America is just as racist as it was in years gone by. I remember those days. I remember federal troops in Little Rock. I remember Gov. George Wallace blocking the school door. I remember Sheriff “Bull” Conner and the fire hoses being turned on marchers in Birmingham. I remember the Freedom Riders. I remember separate drinking fountains and “white only” signs. I remember the fear. I remember the hate.
But mostly, I remember the sound of a Georgia preacher’s voice calling out. I remember him calling out, not just to his followers, but to his enemies as well. He told us that we were better men and women and that hate and fear shouldn’t divide us. He reminded is that we were all one people, regardless of skin color or religion. He didn’t defeat his enemies; he converted them.
That voice was heard. In 1964, the Civil Rights Act became the law of the land with the support of more than 80% of the Republicans in Congress and slightly more than 60% of the Democrats (among those opposing the measure were Klansman Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia and Al Gore’s late father who was a senator from Tennessee).
Those were heady days. Then the dream started to sour. Government programs aimed at aiding African Americans ended up causing mortal harm. The welfare structure effectively destroyed the black family. Other programs, such as affirmative action, conveyed the message to both African Americans and others that blacks were incapable of competing. Some claimed it was needed to fight vestiges of racism against minorities, while completely ignoring the success of Asian Americans, some of whom in modern times faced incarceration solely based on their ethnicity.
Whatever the intent, the effect was to make African Americans dependent upon government largess and intervention rather than encouraging their own genius.
What was perhaps even worse were Dr. King’s successors. They stood in the footsteps of a giant and were found wanting. His inheritors stood at the threshold of greatness … and stepped back.
Instead of following Dr. King’s message of inclusion, they preached a message of separation and divisiveness. Instead of finding strength in self and family, they found dependence upon the government.
Some of their leaders, specifically Jessie Jackson, Cynthia McKinney and Al Sharpton, have preached a strong message of anti-Semitism. Many leaders have refused to denounce or even distance themselves from such vile demagogues as Louis Farrakhan.
As a nation, we honor Martin Luther King. His spirit soars in the heavens with angels, while many of his successors slither in the mud with an entirely different creature.

And now, ladies and gentlemen, the moment you've all been waiting for ... This week’s “What A Maroon” Award goes to...
The gaffe-prone comedienne strikes again. The 9/11 denier who said that Christianity is as threatening as radical Islam, that gun owners should be jailed and that American troops were terrorists, has put her foot in her large mouth once again.
This time, she told Joy Behar on “The View” that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, “Perhaps he should read a history book.”
O’Donnell, who hold a diploma from Commack High School, apparently is unaware that Gingrich not only reads history, but is the author of 25 books. In fact, he is a historian, with B.A. and M.A. degrees in history from Emory University and a Ph.D. in modern European history from Tulane University. In addition, Gingrich taught history at West Georgia College.
O’Donnell should read a bit herself before opening her mouth about other people.
For her appalling ignorance and arrogance, Rosie O’Donnell richly deserves the What A Maroon Award.

MSNBC libtalker Lawrence O'Donnell, infamous for his emotional outbursts and flights of fancy, lit into Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain. O'Donnell accused Cain of being a draft dodger during the Vietnam war.
O'Donnell asked Cain,
The libtalker dismissed the fact that Cain spent the war years working for the Navy Department working on specialized weapons system or that he refused a critical skills deferment and was in the draft lottery like most American men.
Not good enough for O'Donnell who responded, "I am offended on behalf of all the veterans of the Vietnam War who joined, Mr. Cain. The veterans who did not wait to be drafted like John Kerry who joined."
Of course, he neglected to mention that Kerry also jumped at the chance to leave Vietnam before his tour was over, leaving his comrades behind, unlike John McCain who refused early release from a North Vietnamese prison camp hell hole. Or that former President Bill Clinton was an admitted draft dodger, that Vice President Joe Biden took five deferments to avoid Vietnam service or that the current commander in chief, Barack Obama, refused to enlist for service in the First Gulf War.
Even more interesting, O'Donnell himself failed to mention that he avoided military service during Vietnam by accepting a college deferment.
O'Donnell reveals himself to be a hypocritical partisan hack. His real reason for attacking Cain is that the Republican presidential hopeful is an African-American who dared to stray from the Democrats plantation and think for himself. That is unforgivable in the progressive narrative.
Even by MSNBC standards, O'Donnell's attempted character assassination of an honorable man was reprehensible.
